We are proud to welcome into our Fitness Family Chantel Whiting! Chantel is an amazingly talented Boxing Champion, a truly inspirational young lady and an absolute machine! Here at Peak we are pleased to be able to sponsor Chantel, along with Redrow Homes, to help and support her to achieve her goal of winning Gold at the 2020 Olympics.
Here is a little bit more about Chantel, her boxing career and her intense training regime:
“I started Boxing with Mayflower Boxing Club in February 2014 and had my first fight in September 2014 at Bodmin which unfortunately I lost, but from then on I knew that I wanted to carry on in the sport and knew that I had train hard if I wanted to go further. I have just recently moved to Tavistock Boxing Club, which frees up time for me to do my homework and get some extra fitness in.
Since I have been Boxing I have travelled all over England – from Bodmin, Cornwall to the North of England in Alnwick. I also boxed in Guernsey and Dublin, Ireland.
The last two years I have become two times Western Counties Champion, twice reached the National Finals, became Esker Dublin Ireland Champion and I was selected to represent Western Counties twice in Bristol and Guernsey. GB contacted my club asking if I would attend training with them. Only three Girls in the UK got selected and I was selected to represent England in the three Nations and I received Silver.
All of this success is reflecting on my school, as Tavistock College has selected me to be in Tavistock Sports Academy. In the last two years I have won a sports award, Outstanding Practical Performer 2015 and won it again in 2016. In 2016 I was one of eight to win the Sports Personality of the Year Award.
This year Loughborough University selected me to take part in a Talent Inspiration programme. I was one of 200 students from 14yrs to 18 yrs to be selected in England. Tavistock selected me for a leadership course in Tavistock College and Devon Youth Workforce Academy selected me to be a part of their Academy.
TRAINING REGIME:
I train three nights a week a Tavistock Boxing Club. Five mornings a week before school I will do a 2 to 4 mile run and then go to Peak Health and Fitness Gym for an hour to work on strength and conditioning. Every night after school I will do sit-ups and press-ups. Monday and Wednesday I will have a battle rope session and pad work. Saturday mornings I go to Mount Kelly College for a 45 minute swim then an 8 to 10 mile run. Every other Saturday I will go for a 6 mile bike ride. Sundays are my day off unless I have Squad Training.
Every three months I attend Western Counties training in Bristol. Every two months I attend the South of England Squad training in Portsmouth and once a month I go to the England cluster squad training in Tamworth.”
FUTURE AIMS:
My future aim is to go to the 2020 Olympics to win gold and then turn Professional and to win many more titles.
AIMS FOR THE COMING YEAR:
My aim for this year is to win the Golden Girls Championship in Sweden and to Win the National Finals and stay as Esker Champion in Ireland.
